The 20 most powerful cars in the world

Not so long ago, people were amazed when a car exceeded the magic number of 1,000 horsepower. The moment when Bugatti presented the Veyron with 1,001 hp is almost unforgettable. We are now living in the golden age of performance.

Super sports cars almost routinely exceed the magic four-digit number. Even some SUVs and family sedans reach or trump them as well. Today, combustion engines perform better and are more efficient than ever before in highly bred expansion stages. All-electric vehicles make it even easier for engineers to pack power and torque into their everyday vehicles on a large scale.

A hybrid can offer the best of both worlds by combining the instantaneous torque of an electric motor with the screaming peak power of a gasoline engine. The result? Rocket-like acceleration whenever you want it.

Meanwhile, the war for horsepower shows no signs of slowing down. So, after the most expensive cars, we thought it was time to take a look at the most powerful production vehicles available for the 2024 and 2025 model years. We focus on standard, street-legal vehicles in factory specification - special models and bolides modified by tuners do not count.

Despite these limitations, our 2024 performance list includes a wide variety of vehicles. The desire for ultimate performance will be fulfilled by everyone, but perhaps not quite the desire for performance.

Ferrari Daytona SP3

840 hp / 697 Nm

The Daytona SP3 is part of Ferrari's Icona series, an extremely limited series of commemorative cars reserved for the brand's most valuable customers. A 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine is at work here, which has been ramped up to 840 hp. With a speed of 9,500 rpm and a torque of 697 Nm, it is a real roarer. Just don't expect to see a Daytona SP3 on your daily commute or ever in the wild: Ferrari will only build 599 units at a starting price of €1.9 million.

Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast

2024 Tesla Cybertruck

857 hp / 1,390 Nm

The Cybertruck will be seen even less often here at the moment. Because it is currently not approved for Europe. The first electric vehicle on our performance list is also the first off-road vehicle on the list (but certainly not the last). In the top version, the Cyberbeast, three electric motors provide a total of 857 hp and a maximum torque of 1,390 Nm - enough to bring this huge stainless steel wedge to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Just cornering is not too good an idea.

Ferrari SF90

1,000 hp / 800 Nm

Ferrari has a strong presence on our list of the most powerful production cars of 2024, and the SF90 is the top dog of the Ferrari lineup. Behind the passenger cell sits a 4.0-liter V8 with twin turbocharging, which delivers a total of 1,000 hp and 800 Nm of torque with the help of three electric motors. The SF90 sprints from zero to 100 in just 2.5 seconds - and the SF90 XX for the race track should be even faster.

GMC Hummer EV Edition 1

1,000 hp / 1,627 Nm

Yes, it feels crazy that a GMC pickup truck is on par with a Ferrari in a horsepower ranking. The GMC Hummer EV, which is available as a pickup with a short loading area or a four-door SUV, has a whopping 1,000 horsepower in the top-of-the-range Edition 1 trim level. Activate the Watts-To-Freedom mode (yes, that's what it's actually called), and this huge, heavy off-road vehicle sprints to 100km/h in just 3.0 seconds. This makes this monster one of the fastest commercial vehicles in the world.

Lamborghini Revuelto

1,015 hp / 725 Nm

Lamborghini's new supercar has a naturally aspirated V-12 engine at the heart of its hybrid powertrain. The center-mounted 6.5-liter engine screams up to a staggering rotation speed of 9,500 rpm. Paired with three engines - two on the front axle, one between the engine and rear wheels - the Revuelto produces 1,015 hp and 725 Nm of torque.

Tesla Model S Plaid / Model X Plaid

1,020 hp / 1,424 Nm

Tesla's Model S and Model X are the oldest models in Tesla's product range. If you choose the top-of-the-range Plaid, however, they are also the fastest and most powerful at the same time. Thanks to 1,020 hp and a whopping torque of 1,424 Nm, the Plaid models are among the fastest accelerating road-legal cars in the world. And unlike most of the gasoline-powered cars on this list, Tesla's horsepower kings also offer one of the best ranges: up to 634 km, assuming you only use a few of the horses available.

Rivian R1S / R1T

1,039 hp / 1,231 Nm

EV motors are small, which means automakers can install them in spaces where an internal combustion engine simply can't fit. When you buy a Rivian R1S SUV or R1T pickup, you can choose two engines, three engines or, starting this year, four engines with a total of 1,039 horsepower and 1,231 Nm of torque. Later this year, Rivian will begin production, then we can also serve with details on the quad lay-out.

Mercedes-AMG One

1.063 PS

How much torque? Mercedes has not given an exact specification and prefers to refer to the complexity of the hybrid powertrain of the AMG One. However, the horsepower figure alone should be enough of an indication that the AMG One is a serious machine. At a price of 2.75 million euros before tax, it is also quite exclusive. A dealer from Dubai has already charged five million for a used One.

Aston Martin Valkyrie

1,155 hp / 740 Nm

What Mercedes can do, Aston Martin could do as well and built its own hybrid hypercar. But while Mercedes uses a similar V-6 engine to its F1 cars, Aston Martin uses a huge 6.5-liter V-12 engine for the fossil half of the hybrid powertrain. By the way, none other than aerodynamics god Adrian Newey worked on the body. Oh, Aston Martin also offers a Valkyrie AMR Pro, which is only suitable for the racetrack.

Lucid Air Sapphire

1,251 hp / 1,940 Nm

Once again, the absurd performance of electric motors leads to an entry that seems to come from an upside-down world: a four-door, long-wheelbase luxury sedan that produces more horsepower than the most powerful supercars from Ferrari and Lamborghini. That's exactly what Lucid has achieved with the Air Sapphire.

Three electric motors provide 1,251 hp and a torque of 1,940 Nm. That's enough to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds – with a sedan. In contrast to some powerhouses in this list, the Lucid can also take corners: The suspension and suspension have been specially revised for this purpose.

Czinger 21C VMax

1.350 PS

SSC Tuatara

1,369 hp / 1,413 Nm

The SSC Tuatara set a speed record of 532.93 km/h. The rare hypercar has a twin-turbo V8 engine with a speed of 8,800 rpm and produces 1,369 hp - up to 1,750 hp with ethanol. And all this with a seven-speed manual transmission. Hallelujah!

Koenigsegg CC850

1,385 hp / 1,385 Nm

As crazy as it may sound, the Koenigsegg CC850 is a kind of "throwback" machine. This so-called "megacar", which is based on the CC8S, the very first model ever sold by Koenigsegg, squeezes an insane 1,385 hp out of its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8. This gives the CC850 a power-to-weight ratio of one hp per kilogram, as it also weighs 1,385 kg.

To make the number game perfect: 1,385 Nm is also available as maximum torque. It also has a manual transmission, so to speak: the nine-speed multi-clutch transmission can shift itself, but allows a manual mode.

Bugatti Tourbillon

1,800 hp

In the near future, Bugatti will switch to all-electric powertrains thanks to the recent partnership with Croatian electric car innovator Rimac. Think of the tourbillon, with its hybrid powertrain based on a naturally aspirated V-16 engine, as a farewell party for the internal combustion engine. This engine alone produces 1,000 hp.

Together with two electric motors on the front axle and one that drives the rear wheels, this latest plant has 1,800 hp. The sprint from zero to 200 km/h takes five seconds, and Bugatti specifies the top speed at 445 km/h. And while we're on the subject of numbers, let's get to the biggest of all: one of the Chiron successors will cost 3.8 million euros.

Hennessey Venom F5

1.842 PS / 1.617 Nm

Rimac Nevera

1,914 hp / 2,360 Nm

Rimac clearly knows how to get incredible performance out of electric motors. The Nevera EV hypercar has a total of 1,914 hp, which is enough to sprint to 100 km/h in 1.85 seconds. The Nevera has broken a whole series of records, including that of the fastest electric car ever built, with a top speed of 412 km/h. If you want one, you have to put more than two million euros on the table.

Lotus Evija

2,000 hp / 1,704 Nm

This is not the "simple and light" Lotus of founder Colin Chapman. Lotus is now owned by Chinese automotive giant Geely and focuses on high-performance electric cars. So welcome to the next threshold. Because the Evija comes compactly pressed under the body with 2,000 horses. Although Lotus is still building copies, all of them are already taken - not that any of us could afford one of the £1.75 copies at all.

Aspark Owl

2,012 hp / 2,000 Nm

If you've never heard of the Aspark Owl, then you now know exactly what this vehicle is all about. This obscure Japanese hypercar debuted in 2020, but you can buy it right today... provided you have $3.1 million at your disposal. The all-electric hypercar has 2,012 hp and a torque of 2,000 Nm. This makes it supposedly the most powerful electric car in the world - with a ridiculous 1.69 seconds from zero to 97 km/h.

Koenigsegg Gemera

2,300 hp / 2,750 Nm

Another Koenigsegg is at the top of our list of the most powerful cars of 2024. And it's a real blast. The Gemera is a four-seater super sports car that Koenigseggs combines with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a complex electric powertrain. A breathtaking 2,300 hp are achieved in this combination. In this area of the automotive market, list prices are no longer needed. If you have to ask how much it costs, you definitely can't afford it.
